[Alan & Susan Montes]
Susan Brosamle Montes and her husband, Alan Montes, owners of Bear Manor, know what it's like to have too much of a good thing. What started over twenty years ago as a mutual interest in teddy bears has become a business as well as a full-blown addiction. Their tiny store on B Street is overflowing with anything a teddy might need: clothes, toys, books, food, new companions. So is their bedroom. The couple needs a trailer to transport these collectible beasts to as many as thirty conventions and shows a year.

But Susan and Alan are more than happy to let their huggable friends run their lives, and take every opportunity to share their pleasure with others. They keep files of their customers' interests, whether it's Beanie Babies, World of Miniature Bears, any number of limited edition creations or Pooh-related items. Although their shop is closed when "the bears are away on business", they have been known to unlock their doors for "bear emergencies". The job of finding good homes for their charges, many of whom are Bear Manor exclusives, is a job they take quite seriously, even as they continually add new members to their own teddy family. They have made a tradition of giving a teddy bear to anyone who has the misfortune to be in Petaluma Valley Hospital on Christmas Day. They belong to Good Bears of the World, an organization that provides teddies for police and health care workers to give to injured or traumatized children. They may have too much of a good thing, but Susan and Alan know just what to do with it.
