Jill Scatchard, the little girl who fashioned all manner of things from the junk she used to bring home in her wagon, has grown up to create Boosha, a store as unique as she is. Jill named this tiny shop on Helen Putnam Plaza after her dog. She didn't find out until later that the name means "to honor and revere" in the Thai language, and "grandmother" in Polish, but the variety of meanings suits her and the store. The items on the walls and crowded shelves range from elegant to whimsical, and can be said to be necessary in the way that flowers feed the soul. Delightful scents assail shoppers browsing among the candles, soaps, lotions, and oils designed to fragrance the home or pamper the body. Tucked here and there are tributes to her junk yard days—appealing merchandise made entirely of recycled materials. The jewelry is especially wonderful, and civic-minded citizens can appreciate the fact that they are doing something to reduce the landfill at the city dump.
