Architecture The Oddfellows Club established the first library in the region, a private one, in 1858. The public was invited to use it in 1867, and at this time a librarian organized the collection according to the "merit" system. Books she deemed respectable were placed within reach, and books deemed otherwise were placed on the highest shelves. The books were donated to the newly formed public library in 1878.
