History This modern edifice is one of several built on lots which were originally used for oat and hay stacks. Local farmers brought grain and grasses by wagon, barge, and later, by rail, to these oat stacks, which were often piled higher than a man standing in a wagon. They were then bundled and loaded onto steamers for the voyage to San Francisco, for use as both grain and animal feed.
