History McNear's 1902 grain mill was built on the site of the Union Hotel, one of the 5 original Petaluma hotels. The hotel advertised its proximity to the Haystack Railroad depot. Ladies wouldn't have to walk through dusty or muddy streets to get to their lodgings.
